geek love

my conclusion is that i read this article far too early in the day.

entitled Geek Love: Finding the Perfect Wedding Song
it made me think about my own roster of songs and the way melissa maerz does a really good job making me feel panicked that all my good songs are already too laden w/ memories to transitioning me to her ever-hopeful last line:
Love isn't about starting over. It's about moving on.

it was too early in the day, perhaps, because one song i immediately think of is 'your ex-lover is dead' by montreal-based stars. not the most cheerful sounding song, and yes, go ahead make fun of the melodrama that is stars music, but it's definitely a song i listened to way too many times with a boy of the past, and i still can't shake the slog when i hear it now. though, you're right, i wouldn't play this at my wedding, not w/ lyrics like "live through this and you won't look back." hopefully, your wedding is more enjoyable than that.

maybe best to stick with a song that will have all your guests mishearing the lyrics and producing a great spectrum of existential interpretation...oh, john vanderslice.

mostly, this brings me to my second conclusion of the day (what a productive morning!), in parts: 1) the two songs i linked for you, no one should probably ever use for a wedding 2) i'm really not sure what song i'd play at my wedding, but i love that she also said this, 'cause it's true for any new relationship :
But maybe that's part of getting married: really listening to someone else's Greatest Hits, and working hard to make them as much yours as they are the other person's.
and finally, 3) if you're [about to get] married, and you and your lover love music, i'm super curious as to what was played at your wedding song/[what it will be]!

i will be breathless (incidentally, this movie is the next one i'm borrowing from video fan) all day awaiting your responses. totally serious.

xo,

s
