What The?
I have a dress. I know! I just started looking and I have one. I'm still a little stunned.
So I went to the aforementioned appointment at David's Bridal with Mom, expecting to try on some things I'd seen and liked on the web site, and of course other things the consultant would come up with, but I NEVER thought I'd make my decision. Ever. Really thought I'd be milking that topic for many posts to come. Dang it.
The experience was interesting. I was less than enamored with our consultant because she became distracted as soon as a bridal party came in, but she did come up with some nice gowns. When we first walked in, there was one other bride there, and that was delightful as I didn't relish the thought of a bunch of people watching me try things on. At any rate, I got over it and went to work.
Discovered you really have to put your body and size issues aside for this endeavor. I was told from the get-go that all gowns run small and already figured I'd have to go up a size or two as I have a large chest for a gal my size, so always have to fit those first. I already knew this, but definitely confirmed that plunging halters are not for me. Whoa! OK, so the first dress I tried on was the fave from the site and it was too small, so it did NOT look right at all. There was some confusion/miscommunication where I *thought* our consultant said there wasn't a larger size in the store, so I moved on. Ultimately, had three other contenders, and finally got our consultant's attention again to ask if the first dress could be found in a larger size. She found it, I tried it on again and knew.
In the meantime, Mom took pictures of all the contenders with her phone. I need to check with her to see if she has a way to download so that I can include "the one" in a future post. It was great and exciting to do this with her, and she's very generously paid for the dress! I have to say, if you stay away from the designer dresses, the prices at David's are pretty reasonable. As an added bonus, we got $50 off, so it wound up being around $360 with tax and all. Not too shabby for a wedding gown.
I'm actually kind of bummed to have found something so quickly only because this was so much fun to do with my mom, but of course, also thrilled that I found something I love and can cross yet another thing off the list. The new dress comes in at the end of May and then I go in for alterations so will try to get a picture then if I haven't come across one in the meantime. Yeeeee! Happy April, everyone!!
